Gear hire

ON THE MOUNTAIN & NEARBY

The One Tree Sports store (located in Hotham Central) now has a range of backcountry gear for hire, including:

  • Ski touring skis, alpine touring (AT) bindings, skins and poles
  • Splitboard, skins and poles
  • Snowshoes (for snowboarders not using a splitboard)
  • Backpack with avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe
  • Collapsible poles
  • Helmets

There are limited stocks (4 x splitboard and 7 x AT skis) and the backcountry festival will be a busy weekend, so we would advise you booking your gear early.

Tirol Sports (based in the Arlberg building) has some alpine touring (AT) set ups for hire. The owners are back country enthusiasts. They stock a range of back country touring equipment and can do boot fitting and have extensive technical knowledge of ski and split equipment.  They cut and sell skins and sell and mount touring bindings.

The Snow Monkey store at Jack Frost in Hotham village has alpine touring gear for hire. They also have some other backcountry gear (such as avalanche safety kits – beacon/ probe/ shovel) available for hire.

Alpine Access Australia will have avalanche kits for hire (beacon, shovel and probe). $50/ day. AAA will be at the festival but it would be wise to pre book: alpineaccessaust@gmail.com

Hoys Skis rents out cross country skis and snowshoes (and snowboards if you want a snow shoe/ board set up for the backcountry). They have shops in Dinner Plain, at Jack Frost in Davenport Village and Hotham Central and also in Harrietville. They offer deals on gear hire and snow chain hire). Details here.

Ray’s Ski Shop in Myrtleford hires out telemark gear. They are pattern based skis, suitable for backcountry touring and resort. Details here. They also have cross country (XC) ski gear for hire, suitable for touring on and off groomed trails.

MELBOURNE

Twelve Board store in Richmond  hires out splitboards.

Bumps ski store in Elsternwick hires out Alpine Touring (AT) gear.

They offer a range of touring skis and also avalanche packs (beacon, shovel and probe). They recommend booking early.

Mac’s Water Ski World has Jones splitboards, snow shoes and beacons/ avalanche kits for hire.
