Last minute tours on offer

Only two sleeps until the festival! Due to high demand we are offering a few last minute tours. Many thanks to people for their generosity in offering their time and skills.

Beginner Introduction to Splitboarding 

Saturday 7th September

Meet at The General at 8.30 for a 9am start for the festival briefing, then join the tour straight after the festival briefing. Trip will run from 9.30am – 11.30am.

This tour is designed for people who have never splitboarded before, or are interested in getting into splitboarding, for example rented a split board to come along on the tour. Check here for ideas on where to hire boards.

We will head up to Loch Car Park (meeting at the Walking Track entrance left of the dam).

We will splitboard along the cross country track to Mount Loch (weather dependable).

We will do a beacon search. Then return trail back to car park around 11.30am.

Group size 8-10.

We will splitboard along the cross country track to Mount Loch (Weather dependable) and if we have people who were on the Saturday tour, will aim to explore some new terrain and get some runs in.

We will do a beacon search. Then return trail back to car park around midday/1 o’clock.

Group size 8-10.

This tour is designed for people who have never Splitboarded before, or are interested in getting into Splitboarding for example rented a split board to come along on the tour.

Women’s alpine touring focused tour

Saturday – 9:30am-12:30 Saturday
Women’s Tour for Intro to the Basics of Ski Touring

ABILITY- Strong intermediate skier as a minimum, with experience off-piste in variable snow conditions. No backcountry experience required.

FITNESS LEVEL- Medium

EQUIP- Touring ski/bindings and skins, touring backpack with avalanche beacon, shovel and probe (water, snacks), backcountry extendable poles (not essential)

FOCUS- Intro to ski touring with some basic tips on touring and gear. You will have the opportunity to set up and test gear and practice some basic skills to get you started.

LOCATION- To be determined on the day (weather dependent)

Splitboarding tour of the Hotham sidecountry

This half day tour is targeted primarily at intermediate splitboarders and will tour some of the easily accessible ‘side country’ around Mt Hotham. Some options might include the Dargo Bowl/ H Gully area, Eagles Ridge and Women’s Downhill. A decision will be taken on the day based on the groups experience and the conditions.

Saturday, 3 – 31/2 hours. 9.30am – 12.30 or 1pm

Where
Meet at the festival opening at The General. The group will head off after the festival opening.

Level
Intermediate to advanced

Requirements
• Splitboard, skins and accessories (ski-tourer’s also welcome); intermediate or better skills in undertaking both uphill and downhill travel is required
• Ski crampons recommended
• Avalanche beacon, shovel and probe, plus experience using them and undertaking safe travel in the backcountry
• Food and water for the day plus some contingency
• Spare layers

Maximum group size
10 – 12

Description
This is a human powered sidecountry tour in the area immediately around Hotham.
Bootpacking and skinning to gain elevation will be necessary during the day. All participants should be reasonably fit.

    Have registered for Backcountry Fedtival and coming up with a mate to do some X country skiing.

    We are wanting to join a beginners X country group.
    Is that possible? and can my friend register at The General tomorrow morning?

    [hi Luke, yes they can register at The General. Have a look at the program for tours and email the tour leader that interests you. Even if it says the trip is full it may be worth asking as there have been cancellations. https://backcountry-festival.com/festival-program/
