Gathering of the BC tribe

The backcountry festival, which will happen at Mt Hotham over the weekend of September 7 and 8, has close to 30 workshops, tours and info sessions. There will be demo tents and a range of info stalls at the festival HQ outside The General. And then there are the social events:

Friday night.

Drop in at the Snowline Hotel in Harrietville (on your left before you head out of town). Have some dinner, grab a drink. Festival organisers will be there to help with registration and tour bookings from 7 – 8.30pm. Backcountry ski films from 9pm.

Saturday.

Saturday afternoon. Speaker’s program Upstairs at The General, Hotham village. 12 – 4pm.

Featuring a great line-up of speakers, covering everything from the mountain pygmy possum to avalanches at Hotham.

Speakers: Ted Suurkivi, Mark Frost and Michael Bajada, Georgina Boardman, Melissa Clarke, Kelly Kavanagh, Kelly van den Berg, Mia Walker and Lisse, Katya Crema, Bill Barker, Buff Farnell and Ash Peplow Ball.

The outdoor bar. In a gorgeous backcountry location, which is a 1 km ski in/ walk in. The trail head is accessible from the village bus network.

Beers available from Bright Brewery, fire pit, and hot crepes from the Harrietville based  Crepe Collective for sale! 4 – 6pm.

Come dressed for the conditions.

Saturday night from 6.30pm. Kick on at Blizzard Brewery at Dinner Plain.

The brewery is located at the bottom end of DP village, below the Scrubbers End carpark and the ski slope.

Sunday.

Then finish the weekend off with a Protect Our Winters (POW) info and film night at The Bird in Hotham on Sunday night from 6.30pm. Featuring great speakers and a new film from Patagonia. Entry by donation – all proceeds to POW. Details here.
