Backcountry festival 2019 is go!

We’re delighted to announce that the second Victorian Backcountry Festival will be held over the weekend of September 7 and 8, 2019, at Mt Hotham.

As they say on those InfoCommercials: ‘But Wait. There’s More’:

We’re going to be collaborating with our friends at Falls Creek Cross Country and Alpine Access Australia to help bring you three awesome backcountry events during the winter of 2019, with gatherings in the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains (likely to be September 14 and 15) and at Falls Creek (likely to be August 31/ September 1).

Stay tuned for extra details soon – but in the meantime, chuck it in your diary.

Please spread the word to your BC friends. #VICbackcountryfestival

Do you want to get involved in planning the 2019 festival?

Next year will be bigger and better and I’m hoping some extra people will come on board to co-ordinate particular aspects of the festival:

  • The BC film festival. This job would involve curating the film festival, including finding suitable films, organising the program, and identifying speakers and MC for the night, and sorting the logistics for the evening.
  • The program. At this years’ festival, more than 20 people shared their skills by offering a clinic, tour, workshop or talk (thanks!). Our aim is to pull together a similar program for 2019, with more sessions on the Sunday than we had this year. The person co-ordinating the program would be the contact point for people who want to offer a session, and responsible for compiling the program to ensure a good balance of events, and then communicating with the tour leaders about logistics. Check here for the 2018 program, to give you a sense of what we’re looking for.
  • The speakers program. This year there was a wonderful session with Katya Crema and Tamara Hutchins aimed at women who are starting to get into the backcountry and a ‘BC skills 101’ from Margaret. We’d love to expand the speakers program next year, with a range of new sessions, conversations and skillshares, and a diversity of voices.

If you’d like to co-ordinate one of these aspects of the program (or would like a bit more information about what it might entail) then please get in touch:
